What Types Of Health Insurance Coverage Are There?

If you are trying to select a health insurance option, you may be having some difficulty. There are many different insurance plans to choose from and you want to find the one that best fits your individual needs without spending too much. It is imperative that you have a basic understanding of health insurance plans before making a decision.

The three forms of health insurance payments are premium, co-payment, and deductible. A premium is the overall cost of your medical insurance that you pay to the insurer. It is usually an annual rate that is split into monthly payments. A co-payment is a set amount that you pay to a health care provider before they provide care to you. A deductible is money that you pay to the health care provider, either a fixed amount or percentage of the bill, that you must pay before the insurer pays the remainder.

In the world of medical insurance, plans can really be broken down into four broad categories. The categories are health maintenance organization (HMO) plans, point of service (POS) plans, preferred provider organization (PPO) plans, and fee for service (FFS) plans. Each of them has varying degrees of flexibility and premium costs. They each also have particular advantages and disadvantages associated with them.

Usually, the cheapest type of policy is the HMO. Within an HMO, you are allocated a primary care physician that is responsible for your health care. If they are unable to treat you, they will refer you to a specialist. The premium is very low and you only have to pay low co-payments for each doctor visit. If you see a doctor without a referral, the insurance company will not cover the bill at all.

The POS plan similar to an HMO in that you are assigned a primary physician and they make referrals for you. However, the premium and co-payments are higher. In return, you have the option to seek care outside your primary physician or the specialists that they refer you to. In a POS, you can pay a deductible to see other doctors.

A preferred provider organization (PPO) offers more leniency than a POS plan. In a PPO, you are not assigned a primary physician. Instead, you are authorized to seek care from any doctor within the PPO network and pay with co-payments. Additionally, you can seek outside care if you would like by paying a deductible. PPOs have become fairly popular insurance plans over the past several years.

The most flexible plan is known as a fee for service (FOS) plan. It is also the most expensive plan to choose. It allows you the ability to see any doctor that you want and only have to pay a deductible. However, most insurance companies have implemented caps on this type of coverage and if you exceed the cap, you will be responsible for the remainder of the bill.

There are a lot of different health care plans available. Each plan has advantages and disadvantages, so you will have to choose what works best for you. When you choose an insurance policy, however, it is important that you understand all of the terms and conditions of the policy before committing to it.

Health Care Ethics: Paramount To Good Health Care

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding health care ethics. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about health care ethics.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about medical care management. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

When you’re learning about something new, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information available. This informative article should help you focus on the central points.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole medical care ethics story from informed sources.

Many people don’t ever think about health care ethics when they visit their doctor’s office or hospital. That’s more than likely because all of their health care providers practice good health ethics. That means that they care for their patients without prejudice, without malice and they do whatever they do with the best interest of the patient in mind. Health ethics are important to every aspect of the health care industry, from ambulance drivers to heart and brain surgeons. Without medical ethics, the world as we know it would be drastically different, with everyone frightened to go to the doctor or the hospital for fear of their own safety and well being.

A Frightening Thought

What if you went to your doctor and you were never told about a certain drug that could help your ailments merely because he or she wanted you to keep coming back, which would require an office visit fee each time? Or, what if you went for a physical exam and were fondled? Or, what if your doctor tried a new experimental technique on you without you knowing about it and you ended up disabled or worse? Any one of these things would enrage most people and rightfully so. You now see why health care ethics are so important.

When doctors and other medical professionals get their individual licenses to practice whatever form of medical care they are educated in, they must take an oath stating that they will promise to practice good medical care management. This is meant to protect the patient from any unethical practices, which would give health protection in general a very bad name. It’s important for anyone practicing any aspect of health care to have good health care ethics. The patients, after all, pay their salaries so it’s important to treat them with care and the utmost respect.

However, just because an oath is taken, doesn’t mean that all doctors and health care providers are ethical. There are always a few bad eggs in the bunch. You need to watch out for any questionable health care ethics practiced by your health care provider. If you notice anything you are uncomfortable about, tell someone immediately. Most health care providers do practice good medical care so you should rest easy knowing that you are in good hands whenever you visit your local doctor or hospital.

That’s the latest from the health management authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about medical care standards. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.

Canadian Health Care: The Difference

Canada is a former member of the British Empire, not that you would know to look at it at the moment! It is now a long-standing independent country but still bears a resemblance to the country that it was once under in certain ways, and health care is one of those ways. Canada health care is extremely good and based on the national health care system still in existence in the UK. In other words, everyone gets access to a good system that is affordable and non-discriminatory, but those who wish to can pay for private care as and when they like. Canada health care insurance plans are funded by the government and publicly as well, and an individual’s policy in maintained by the province that they live in.

Canada health care guidelines are set by the government and are thus uniform throughout the country. It is similar in its make up to that in the UK, meaning that it offers both remedial and preventative health care to anyone that needs it as and when the need arises. This includes doctors, hospitals, dentists and other health care practitioners that come under the one blanket that is Canada health care. All Canadians can get the health care that they want and need as a result because nobody is excluded. The quality of care, though, is unparalleled. Despite being a publicly funded service, the standards are so high that other countries look to Canada for inspiration if their health care system is in need of a makeover!

The average life expectancy in Canada is 80 years old, and that is higher than the age set for most other countries. This pays testament to just how good Canada health care actually is. The infant mortality rate is also low, and these two facts combine to speak volumes about just how good care actually is.

The Canada health care system has been much debated over the years because is has been and still remains socialized. Some individuals have called for private health care but you only have to look at the existing standards and practices to know that it is better left alone. Why try to fix something that is not broken at the risk of making it worse?

There are no problems with the system as it is and making Canada health care resemble US health care is a risk that is not worth taking. At the moment, all Canadians are entitled to the same health care, regardless of age, postcode and annual income. This works well because the nation’s health is far higher than any of their neighboring and fellow Western countries. Whilst the system is not cheap to maintain, it works and surely the nation’s health is more important than money?

We only live once and should make the most of every day via opportunities that are presented to us. Not everyone in the world has access to good health care so make the most of the opportunity that you have been given!

What Are the Four Biggest Obstacles to Good Health Care?

The health care debate is heating up and it seems most of the voices we hear favor some form of “universal” health care and their premises are “it is the right of everyone to have health care” and the “assumption that it works”.

The health care debate is heating up and it seems most of the voices we hear favor some form of “universal” health care and their premises are “it is the right of everyone to have health care” and the “assumption that it works”. I challenge BOTH premises as being false. The first premise is not constitutional and the second is bogus because nowhere in the world has any form of universal health care displayed any success what so ever. Let’s expose the four vocal groups that stand in the way of workable good health care so we can debate around these voices.

Group One is represented by about 10% of our society who are unwilling to take responsibility for their own health care and expect others to pay for their selfish irresponsibility. Just today I was listening to an exchange between our new President and one of the attendee and a “town hall” meeting being conducted in Florida. This lady, in an impassioned voice was lamenting that she needed health care, a new kitchen, a new car, and one other item (I think it was a new bathroom) and she wanted to know when he (the President) was going to provide it. What has happened to our country? This is so sad but this lady is typical of many in our society who are unwilling to accept personal responsibility for their needs and expect the government to provide them.

Group Two is all of the news media that give voice to the other groups because they think it represents power to them. This group uses platitudes and biased stories in their desire to force universal health care on us so they can share power with elected politicians over our lives. A current example of how our “Pravda news media” is controlling what they tell us. It has been learned that the citizens of this country are notifying their politicians they dislike the $ 1 Trillion economic stimulus at the rate of 100 to 1 against. Yet the news media is not reporting this and our arrogant politicians are ignoring the desires of the very people who elected them.

Group Three will be short. This group is made up of all the litigious lawyers out there who make millions suing health care workers doing their best to save lives. These people contribute NOTHING to the betterment of society and in fact are like a cancer on society. One of the biggest expenses for doctors is “malpractice” insurance. Last October I read a news story about how doctors were relocating to Texas. They were doing so because the State passed a tort reform law limiting liabilities and the Texas agency responsible for licensing doctors was 2,000 applications behind.

Group Four – All the politicians out there who espouse feeling our pain and want to give health care to everyone. They know nothing about health care and desire nothing but our vote to keep their sorry rear end in office. They should learn how to save money instead of only knowing how to spend it.

In fact one of the initiatives we should create could have the purpose of teaching politician how to save money instead of only spending money (and worse, it is our money).

Here are some numbers you need to remember. Our constitution calls for our politicians to be responsible for certain things like defending our shores. If one looks at our Federal budget only twenty percent (20%) is spent on those things mandated by the constitution. This means that eighty percent (80%) of our Federal budget is basically spent on “vote buying schemes” and I am fed up.

Without these four groups the health care debate would be intelligent and helpful. Our challenge is to become educated about what “health care” really is. It is available through Amazon, or from the publisher Eloquent Press, or from my website.

A debate on health care needs to happen. Citizens of this country, and the world, need to know what health care really is and not just what they hope it will be. To facilitate the debate we are launching a campaign utilizing the Internet and the vast resources now available. If you agree with us you can participate by helping to finance the effort as we can only go as far as our resources will let us.

Our plans are many fold;

1) we will be an advocate for health care programs based on “free-enterprise” principles and totally devoid of ANY government intervention,

2) we will be an advocate for a doctor friendly health care system,

3) we will be an advocate for businesses, both large and small, to be freed from health care responsibilities,

4) we will attempt to establish learning centers for politicians, and future politicians, to learn how to save our tax dollars instead of seeing how many of our tax dollars they can spend,

5) for those weak citizens with their hands held out and expecting government to provide for them, we will work for YOU because we know you will have better care with our approach than any government run program could ever provide, and

6) we will continue to expand our efforts as long as we have the resources and the energy.

Let’s have a healthy debate about health care, not one made up of biased sound bites fed us through biased news media outlets. Instead, let’s exchange ideas to help people around the world understand that health care provided by government IS NOT FREE.

Here is a newsflash for all to hear, a government does not have ANY MONEY with which to provide us with health care, or anything else for that matter, unless they first take the money from us in the form of TAXES, LICENSES, or FEES.

A government run health care system is fertile ground for abuse, inferior medical care, rationing, and corruption. TODAY, in this country NINETY PERCENT of our health care resources as used up by only TEN PERCENT of our population. Be careful what you ask for!
